About Robert Anderson

Robert Anderson Born; Robert Carl Anderson, in White Sands Missile Range, NM in 1971. My father was in the Army and we travelled a lot. Alberquerqie, NM (1 year), Springfield, VA(1), Wurzburg, Germany(2), Ft. Leavensworth(1) and finally in Stafford, VA where I grew up. Living in Germany for two years had a huge impact on my understanding of art and culture.

Drawing has always been part of my life. I was told I was talented and I loved creating my own world. In the 3rd grade, I drafted spaceships for my friends 'Dogs vs Cats Wars'. I failed that year. My dad built my first drafting table in the 5th grade and I started studying Le Corbusier and the International Style. I was in Special Art in 7th & 8th with Mrs. McPherson. In high school, I turned to the ruler instead of the brush - mechanical drafting, AutoCadd, CAD/CAM (VA Governor's School). My first all-nighter was building the Globe Theater for English Class. I graduated from North Stafford H.S. in 1990. I went to The Ohio State University's Knowlton School of Architecture because Jose Oubrerie (former PM for Le Corbusier) was Department Head. I excelled in design studios taught by David Soka, Mike Caldwell, Mark Robbins, Gabe Esquivel & Jose Oubrerie, art & architecture history, figure study, model crafting, conceptual drawing and DE constructivist theory. Architecture Study Tour of England and Wales in 1993 - architecture photography and pen & ink sketching. I learned to draw whatever I could see. I used art as a tool for exploring space and form - 'Reflection' - 1992, wood sculpture. Did my first abstract - 'Nude Descending a stair in NYC', 1994, ink/gesso/mylar. I decided that my artwork will be abstract & non-objective. Best critique of my work - 'Perfect set of drawings.' Thom Mayne of Morphosis & design process was related to Steven Holl and Ansiel Keiffer by Jose Oubrerie.

I became a Finish Carpenter for two years so I could learn to build architecture and started my career in architecture.... more to come.
